MRYG Summer

While RFM highly values the traditional time we get to spend with students year round during Sunday and Wednesday meeting times - we believe that some of the most impactful and faith formative moments in a student’s life happen outside the walls of our campus; and outside the native life experience and perspectives of our students. For this reason, we work hard and invest considerable effort and time to create a summer program each year that can push the boundaries, create unique faith building opportunities, and instill a spirit of service and gratitude. Through a variety of trips, camps, and service projects we keep summers fresh, and packed with fun opportunities for students to build relationships in community, and grow in their faith while having an absolute blast!

South Texas Mission Trip

Every June, our High School group makes a trip near the Mexico border. While there, they complete service projects including humanitarian aid and outreach, painting houses in impoverished areas, and collaborate with local churches to serve the community. Often this includes projects with a local food bank, and putting on VBS for local churches.

This cultural context is wildly different from what our students experience every day, and it provides incredible value and opportunities to grow and gain perspective. Though the kids work very hard on the trip, many mention this as their favorite. We place an emphasis on learning to serve, have fun, and make a difference together.

Boles home

Each summer the Merge (6th-8th grade) students from MYRG travel to Boles Home for a missions and service week there on the home’s campus. Boles serves underprivileged mothers and children from the region, and our group leans into service projects that include facilities upkeep of all kinds. This trip provides a unique opportunity for our Merge students to broaden their perspective, and develop a heart for service and community outreach.

TREK

Every other summer MRYG makes the trip to Salida, Colorado and spends a week on Wilderness Trek. This transformative trip sees the group totally off the grid and in God’s creation from low to high camp, and all the way to the summit of a majestic Rocky Mountain peak. There is little that can compare to the experience of being removed from all distractions and noise, while spending a challenging and incredibly rewarding week with your brothers and sisters in the wild. A favorite and pillar of the MRYG summer program, we aim to take our next Wilderness Trek in summer of 2023!

CAMP ICTHUS

Each summer MRYG partners with 7 local congregations for camp Ichtus. It’s a week of fun, fellowship, and spiritual development - as students from across the Dallas Metroplex spend a week off the grid and in community. Camp ICTHUS is held at the YMCA adventure park about 30 minutes north of our campus, and boasts dormitories, educational buildings, amphitheaters, a swimming pool, and multiple sports fields. Icthus is EASILY the highlight of the summer for our students, and we’ll be looking forward to 2022’s edition!
